Better Hope History

Better Hope Community Outreach was founded in 2017 by veronica Davis. The outreach began as homeless program “Feed His People”. Our Board, volunteers, partnerships with Blessing of Hope Amish Food Bank and The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Church in downtown Camden, NJ. Open the door for our first “Feed His People” on the streets corner of Camden. BH served 72 meals to the homeless community in Camden.

On April 14, 2018, Better Hope was incorporated as a nonprofit corporation. At that time, BH Homeless Initiatives Committee begin delivering Hygiene Care Bags to homeless women and men. That initiatives sparked a partnership with First Presbyterian Church of Somerdale community program “Operation Christmas”, youth department personal care donation and BH to hosting our first “Breakfast with Santa” for underprivileged children.

In 2019, BH Homeless Initiatives Committee started “Drive-N-Service Street Outreach, Senior Shut-In Program.” And hosted our first 5K Homeless Awareness Fundraiser at Cooper River Park to bring awareness to the impact homelessness had on women and youth.

Our Board Members and a group caring people in their day-to-day activities visited senior’s shut-in to deliver fruit Baskets and conversation to seniors who otherwise wouldn’t have anyone stopping by to say Hello. Served the homeless street communities of NJ and PA with care packages, conversation and prayer. Our Care Package included: Food, personal care item, list of services to help them come from under the bridges, out the parks, doorway and street corners. Our Senior Baskets included: Fresh fruit, chocolate, a list of senior day programs in their area for socialization.

In 2020 It look like BH would never rise again. With the World Health Organization declaring COVID a pandemic. BH was significantly impacted, leading to both challenges and financial difficulties due to decreased donations and funding. Which were crucial in helping BH remain operational during that period.

In 2022, The post-pandemic prompted our Board to rethink funding, operational strategies and property acquisition. This included operation, sustainability and resilience creating healthier, more adaptable service and program to serve the well-being of single family women and youth. By shifting our focus on government partnerships, diverse funding source and the collaboration of resources would better position BH for growth.

In 2023 we started our search for a facility. In December of 2025, BH purchased six and one quarter acres of land in Salem County, New Jersey. Our new facility is the first phase of our building project. Rehabilitation and infrastructure of existing house and mobile homes on property begin in March of 2026. Future phases will include: Administrative Offices, BH Retreat Center, Community Center to offer outreach services, life skill, vocational education, workforce development, housing assistance programs toward self-sufficiency.

In 2026 the vision of BH is now unfolding for transitional housing program to serve pregnant, parenting youth and women experiencing domestic abuse.
